Leaving tomorrow August 3rd

The time has finally arrived as we will all be leaving from various parts of the U.S. and meeting up in Houston Friday afternoon for our first leg of our 10 hour flight to Amsterdam. At the same time Beatriz will be flying to meet us in Amsterdam from Barcelona where she has been visiting family and traveling a bit. We will have a 1 1/2 hour layover in Amsterdam just enough time to get a fresh cup of coffee and splash some water on our face to help wake us up then back on the plane for another 9 hour flight to Nairobi arriving around 7:00 p.m. Saturday night. We should arrive at the Anglican Guest House around 9:00 p.m. or so where we will be staying for the next 7 days. Sunday will be our first church service, which is always wonderful, then lunch, a trip to a cultural center to see the various tribes of Kenya with their costumes and dances. It's quite an experience. Then we'll go to a youth concert at a local church in town with some of the youth that will be working with us during the 2 weeks. Monday-Friday we will be working with 100-150 children ages 8-13 who live in the Kibera slum just down the street in a day camp. Each day they walk the couple of miles with their leaders eager and ready to hear about the Lord and have a great time. Each afternoon when the children go back home we will be working with about 20-30 youth leaders who are wanting to just learn more about how they can reach the youth of this area in the country. On Saturday we will be taking a day trip over to Lake Nukura, which is one of the larger animal parks and see how many of the big 5 we can see; watch for the photos.

The 2nd week we will move our team out to Pan African Christian University. We'll have 80 youth ages 14-18 who will come and live on campus with us for the next 5 days. This is quite an experience for all of us, especially for the kids coming out of the slum area and living in a place like this. This will be an intense time of sharing with the youth on sexual purity, with small group Bible study and discussions and many other topics and issues that are relevant to their lives. You can really pray for all of our team during this second week of intense discussions.

Then on Friday the 17th the team will return to the U.S., forever changed. We can't wait.

We can not do any of this without all of you standing with us and praying with us each day. We have a tremendous opportunity to help these young people see how God sees them and how much He loves them. Many have never heard this before, and their image of a father is far from loving, or non-existant. Pray that they will see Jesus in each of us for these 2 weeks. Pray that God will speak through each of us and that there will no doubt in any of our minds that He did it all, and it's all to His Glory!

Prayers for your safe journal...to Africa! I have been to Nairobi twice and loved both trips. I look forward to the day that I can join you on a trip. Until then, I will be prayering for eager ears for the gospel, good health for all the team, supernatural energy and blessings to all involved. May God's message and love shine through each of you and touch the hearts of the needy children and adults in Kenya. Sherrie Ross
